In October of last year, I happened to see the Black Chroma Stanley online somewhere and went to order one at the local Dick’s Sporting Goods. At the time I was back and forth between Pepsi and Sprite as my only source of liquid sustenance. I had been wanting to cut back for a while, mostly for health reasons.
I don’t think there’s been a period in my life where I drank nothing but water longer than a few weeks. I took after my father and mostly stuck with Pepsi. My mother used to drink Diet Mountain Dew, so I also enjoy those on occasion.
My marching band director from high school drank Diet Coke. I tried those later in life and I guess they aren’t half bad.
I ventured off in high school into Sprite, but I always seemed to gravitate back towards Pepsi. That came from my grandmother (dad’s mom), she used to get 7-up when I was a kid growing up. Something about the light pop being better for you than the dark pop. Ginger Ale is not fit for human consumption, even when ill.
Anyways, my entire life has been pop. Or soda, but I’ve never said that seriously in my life.
My journey to drinking nothing but ice-cold water started when I bought that Stanley cup in October. It sat at home gathering dust for a few months before it disappeared from my life and consciousness altogether. Then one day, months later, thirsty, I decided I would go clean that cup out and give water an honest try.
I looked everywhere in the house for the cup. Couldn’t find it. I let everyone else in the house know that I was on the hunt for my cup, that I finally wanted to put water inside and drink it.
After a few days of looking for my cup, on the verge of caving in and buying a new one- someone else in the house found it in an area everyone looked just a few days earlier!
Happy as could be, I filled it up with ice cubes, then filtered water. The first few sips are meh. But, after about 10-15 minutes I was convinced- this is the only liquid you are supposed to be putting in your body on a regular basis.

I’ll still have a pop on occasion if I’m eating out somewhere, but I’m happy to say I am no longer a source of pop in the house. It’s been a few months now so I’m confident this will stick.
