This morning, I logged into MyChart and scheduled a blood draw to be sent out for an HIV test. I scheduled at the MetroHealth closest to me, which isn’t the one I usually go to.
I arrived and checked in shortly before 10 am. Within minutes I was called to the back, the nurse had a urine cup in her hand.
She told me the HIV test was in the urine cup.
The sticker she had showed labs for a bunch of different STDs, but HIV wasn’t included.
I told her that I only scheduled a blood draw, just for HIV. Apparently, Elizabeth Shotwell still speaks for me as my doctor to nurses. She made the nurse try to give me a urine test. Because she said Elizabeth Shotwell ordered it, I denied it. I came in to make sure all this talk about you guys giving HIV was false, and I was denied a blood draw.
The nurse left at first to go grab another nurse. She grabbed another nurse, who herself grabbed another nurse all telling me that I can’t have just an HIV test.
I told the nurse that my doctor didn’t schedule it, I did. She sent me back to the waiting room, and my partner has a final today for college, so I had to leave.
Good news, my current doctor fixed the issue by ordering a lab directly that I believe they will fill as she is ordering, not my previous doctor. I will be going tomorrow to get the test.
