Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church on the corner of 57 and Chestnut Ridge Rd runs a recovery program called “Celebrate Recovery”. It’s about recovery from any kind of addiction that life could inflict upon you. I went to this church when I was a child, I was baptized here. I have fond memories of Sunday school and other church activities when I was young. My grandmother asked me to check out this program, so I did.
I learned a new word here that I would not hear again for years. “Mind’s eye”. Not a phrase you hear every day. One of the other people in recovery with me was there because “he let too much into his mind’s eye”. That can only mean so many things, but I’m not going to speculate.
While I was being tortured some months ago, the phrase “Mind’s eye” was thrown around a lot. They said that MY mind’s eye was a torrent to be unleashed upon the world. Whatever that means.
Because I received no individual specific help, I did not stay in celebrate recovery. They wanted to help everyone recover from their individual addictions with generalities.
I made it without church though. I made it with medication.
